Reflective Statement
Artifact: Technology-supported Presentation and Outline- Merit Pay
Technology STANDARD 7 – Research, Problem Solving, & Product Development
The competent teacher will use computers and other technologies in research, problem solving, and product development. The competent teacher will appropriately use a variety of media, presentation, and authoring packages; plan and participate in team and collaborative projects that require critical analysis and evaluation; and present products developed.
I selected to use the Technology Supported Presentation and Outline about Merit pay as an artifact for Technology Standard 3 because it integrated research, problem solving, and product development through the use of a Web 2.0 application about an issue teachers in America are faced with today. My group and I collaborated to create P arezi Presentation to present our research findings regarding merit pay to our fellow classmates. We used several difference sources written about merit pay to analyze the issue, to identity its key stakeholders and their perspectives, and to discover solutions to the issue teachers are faced with today. With the critical analysis and evaluation of the resources and creation of the presentation, my group and I able to discover our own opinion regarding merit pay while gaining more knowledge and experience using technology and collaborating with peers. .
This artifact is an appropriate representation of the standard because it shows how teachers can use technology to conduct research, problems solve, and develop products on their own and collaboratively with other teachers. Knowledge indicator 7A states that the competent teacher “understands how to use computers and other technologies in research, problem solving, and product development.” The collaboratively made Prezi presentation based on our research about merit pay shows that I understand how to use computers and the function they serve for me as a teacher for my own personal research and product development in the classroom. This presentation also is an appropriate artifact for performance indicator 7E which states that the competent teacher “selects appropriate tools for communicating concepts, conducting research, and solving problems for an intended audience and purpose.” This assignment in which we had to communicate an issue in a presentation to the whole class forced my group and I choose the most appropriate online articles to compile all of the information in to an presentation software that best delivered and communicated our findings.
Creating this lesson plan has given me hands on experience with using technology to conduct research, problem solve, and create a presentation to present to my peers about an issue that affects teachers and future teachers. This allowed me to gain researching skills and discover presentation software to be able to effectively present our research. This will help me not only with professional research, but research and product development regarding my own lessons in a classroom one gain. This assignment allowed me to gain confidence in using technology to conduct research and to use presentation software to effectively present the information I found. It is essential for teachers to be able to reduce a lot of content to a small amount of information in a way that is engaging for students
